EVANS LEFT IN A HOLE BY FAULT LINES

FORMER British No.1 Dan Evans is out of Australian Open qualifying after a first-round defeat to Rei Sakamoto.

The 35-year-old, beaten 6-1 6-2 by the Japanese player (above), appeared to struggle with his serve.

He double-faulted four times and made just 48 percent of his first serves, compared to Sakamoto's 78 percent. Fellow British players Jack Pinnington Jones, Jay Clarke and Oliver Crawford also lost on the first day in Melbourne.
