Thief who tried to steal £200m diamond speaks for first time

A THIEF has spoken for the first time about the plot to steal a £200million diamond from the Millennium Dome.

Lee Wenham, 56, was part of a sophisticated gang who smashed into the Dome in Greenwich, South London, with a JCB digger.

But the gem had been switched for a replica and police lay in wait for the robbers, led by hardman Ray Betson.

Wenham says in the three-part series, produced by Snatch and The Gentlemen director Guy Ritchie: "It was a bit of a p***-take putting the diamond in that bit of London, which is a rat race for thieves.

"It's like putting it in the lion's den so obviously we thought, 'We've got to have it'.
