Temporary injunction 'sets precedent' & means migrants must go by Sept 12

- DAN WARBURTON

ASYLUM seekers will be blocked from staying at a hotel targeted by protesters after the local authority won a High Court injunction.

Mr Justice Eyre yesterday granted a temporary order, commanding the Bell Hotel in Epping, Essex, to stop housing migrants from September 12.

The court heard the ruling could lead to other councils making similar applications. The Home Office has said an injunction would “substantially impact” its housing of asylum seekers in hotels.

A last-minute attempt by the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to get the case dismissed failed.

Thousands of people have been protesting in Epping in recent weeks, both against asylum seekers and for migrant rights.
