President calls for united export strategy amidst US tariff challenge
July 14, 2025
|Daily FT
PRESIDENT Anura Kumara Disanayake on Saturday confirmed that Sri Lanka has successfully negotiated a reduction in the proposed reciprocal tariff imposed by the US, bringing the rate down from 44% to 30%.
-
During a high-level meeting at the Presidential Secretariat with key stakeholders from the export sector, Disanayake noted that this development was the result of recent diplomatic efforts and ongoing dialogue with the US counterparts.
He stated that discussions will continue in the coming weeks in a bid to secure further concession that could ease the burden on Sri Lankan exporters.
The President stated that the objective of the Government is to implement changes that will benefit the country's economy, business community, and the well-being of its citizens.
