TOMAS SOUCEK has paid tribute to Callum Wilson for sparking West Ham's survival bid into life.

The 33-year-old frontman struck the winner at Tottenham in stoppage time, just moments after entering the field.

But what made the goal all the sweeter was that earlier this month, the Hammers were being tipped to tear up their attacker's short-term contract.

Soucek said of his resilient teammate: "He's a great player.

"He's a few goals from 100 [93] in the Premier League, so I wish he would get there quicker!

"But he's a great guy and he showed it. He only came on for two or three minutes. Lots of strikers wouldn't overly care and wouldn't move much after this but he showed that he cared.

"After one minute [after coming off the bench], he created a big chance and then from the corner he scored.

"He showed the instinct of the striker and I hope he stays, because he's a great guy and he can help massively."
