Ukraine attack downs £274m Putin spy plane

UKRAINE said it downed a £274million A-50 Russian spy plane in a “perfectly planned and executed operation”.

And in what will be seen as a major blow to Vladimir Putin, army chief General Valerii Zaluzhnyi said an Il-22 control centre plane was also shot down in the attack over the Sea of Azov on Sunday.

Russia reportedly had only eight Sovietera A-50s operating in its air force prior to the incident. Details about weapons used to down the planes have not yet emerged.
