UK 'SHAFTED' BY STARMER'S US TRADE DEAL

SIR Keir Starmer has been accused of allowto be ing Britain "shafted" by Donald Trump after securing a trade deal with the US.

UK 'SHAFTED' BY STARMER'S US TRADE DEAL

Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said the agreement which means the UK will still face a 10% tariff on car exports, down from 27.5% is more evidence that the country "loses" when Labour negotiates.

Mrs Badenoch's blast came after the Prime Minister and the US President hailed a "historic" transatlantic partnership, insisting it will "open up" the UK.

Charges on car and steel exports to the US will be lowered in return for Britain slashing levies and loosening curbs on farming markets.

Mrs Badenoch insists it means the UK is worse off than before Mr Trump started his tariff blitz and will hit jobs and businesses.

She said on X: "When Labour negotiates, Britain loses. We cut our tariffs - America tripled theirs."

The former Business Secretary added: "Keir Starmer called this 'historic.' It's not historic, we've just been shafted!"

The Government has been pursuing a deal with the US to reduce the impact of sweeping tariffs imposed in Mr Trump's "Liberation Day" announcements last month.

The agreement removes a 25% levy on British steel and aluminium.

Tariffs on cars will be 10% for 100,000 vehicles a year - down from the 25% global levy which the President slapped on the 2.5% that already existed.

Any British vehicles exported above the 100,000 figure will be subject to a 27.5% import tax.
