UK housing market resilient despite fears over new taxes

HOME sales are expected to hit 1.15 million transactions this year with the market at its highest point for years.

Purchases are 4% higher than July 2024 with 95,580 last month and 1% ahead of June 2025, according to data from HMRC.

Jeremy Leaf, estate agent and former Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors residential chair, said: “Resilient transaction numbers reflect what we have been seeing in our offices — buyers and sellers are negotiating hard but the overwhelming majority of agreed sales are proceeding to completion.”
