Kate prepares for first festive season without Derek

- Jan Disley

"This Christmas we'll make new memories'

BROADCASTER Kate Garraway has pledged to "look to the future" as she faces her first Christmas without her beloved husband Derek.

The TV favourite, cover star of Woman and Home's Christmas issue, says the festive period will be about making "new memories" with children Darcey, 18, and Billy, 15.

But she says they also have plenty of old traditions to look back on. Kate, 57, said: "We used to have a routine where we would get in the car on Christmas Eve and drive to Derek's parents' house in Chorley.

"We'd dress up for the journey.

Derek would put Christmas lights around the inside of the car and we'd rate all the villages' Christmas lights as we drove through them.
