Sir David: 'I like to let pictures do the talking

Attenborough on making new series of Planet Earth

SIR David Attenborough says the key to his powerful narrations is that they "mustn't be too wordy".

Planet Earth is returning for a third series on Sunday with Sir David offering his signature authoritative commentary.

Sharing some insight into how he scripts the episodes, he said: "The one key, I think, is that a picture is more powerful than a spoken word and if you give people the two things, the thing that they remember is the picture.

"Having written a commentary, the first thing to do is to carefully see what you can get rid of.

"You mustn't be too wordy." In an interview with executive producer Mike Gunton, Sir David said children should be given more opportunities to observe and understand nature.
