'Silent killer' alert for men to get blood pressure test

MILLIONS of men are being urged to take up a free health MOT amid fears many are living with an undiagnosed “silent killer”.

A poll of 1,077 by Boots found more than one in four (27%) had not had their blood pressure checked in the past year.

Of those, 47% said this was because they felt healthy, while 14% did not know at what age they should get it checked and 4% were worried their reading would be too high.

Dr Pauline Swift, chair of charity Blood Pressure UK, said the research was “a timely reminder that feeling healthy doesn’t always mean you are healthy”.
