Rishi Sunak declines to back Brianna mum's call for teen social media ban

RISHI Sunak turned down an opportunity to back calls by the mother of murdered teenager Brianna Ghey for a social media ban on under-16s' phones.

Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe were 15 when they stabbed 16-year-old Brianna 28 times after luring her to a park in Cheshire, last February. They were jailed for life on Friday.

The trial heard Jenkinson had watched videos of torture and murder online.

Brianna's mother, Esther Ghey, wants mobile phones for under-16s that "would have all of the not media social apps that are there out now".

She also wants searches for inappropriate material to be flagged up to parents. She says if that had happened with Brianna's killers, their families would have been "able to get some kind of help".
