referees to look after England's players better

ENGLAND chase a series win against Argentina tonight with Steve Borthwick demanding the officials do a better job of looking out for injured players.

The head coach was alarmed by incidents involving two of his stars during the first-Test victory over the Pumas in La Plata last week. Henry Slade's tour was ended by a fractured hand but England claim Angus Gardner, right, told the centre to get up and that the referee did not want to stop the match.

When second row Charlie Ewels later suffered a finger dislocation "that went through the skin", England similarly felt rushed to treat him.

Borthwick said: "What was slightly concerning was that in both incidents the referee was trying to play through, trying to carry on, trying to tell the player to get up.
