Race officials defend 'woke' rebrand

CHELTENHAM officials have denied going "woke" after changing Ladies' Day to a gender-neutral Style Wednesday - but the switch did not deter the Queen and her fellow royal ladies yesterday.

Horse racing events have decidated a day to women's fashion ever since Queen Victoria wore a hat at Royal Ascot in the 1830s.

And almost 200 years later, Queen Camilla was holding on to her own Lock & Co hat in windy conditions yesterday.

A storm was also brewing over the changes to the Gloucestershire meeting, including the green-focused Slow Fashion awards open to any gender and celebrating "vintage and borrowed items, as well as investment pieces".
