Prison officers` 282,000 mental health days off

PRISON and probation staff took the equivalent of more than 770 years off due to mental health problems last year.
It amounted to 282,457 days lost, said the Labour Party.
It also warned that there has been a 148% rise since 2018 when records began and it is now at a new high.
The revelations "are damning and point to a workforce on the brink", said shadow justice secretary Shabana Mahmood.
More than 40% of all the sick days logged are due to mental health, reveals the latest prison and probation workforce data for the year to March 2024.
