Our thoughts are with the victims in Liverpool

As we go to press, it is too early to draw any firm conclusions about the cause of a horrific collision that involved multiple Liverpool fans during what should have been a joyous trophy parade to celebrate their team's Premier League title victory.

But with emotions invariably running high, it is clear that the authorities have learnt valuable lessons from last July’s Southport tragedy, which saw toxic speculation and incitement to violence rapidly fill an information vacuum with disastrous consequences.
