WRIGHT GRATEFUL HUNCH PAID OFF
PETER WRIGHT turfed out title-holder Luke Humphries with 2020 vision, using the set of darts he threw to win his first world title.
The 'Snakebite' is famous for tinkering with his stems, tips and flights in search of technical perfection, often swapping them midway through a game.
But when he ended Humphries' reign at the PDC World Championship with a stunning 4-1 fourthround win at Alexandra Palace on Sunday night, Wright's arbitrary choice of arrows changed the course of history.
On a last-minute hunch, he chose the tungsten weapons with which he defeated Michael van Gerwen, right, 7-3 in the 2020 final, and they worked a treat.
Wright, 54, said: "I just shoved them in my case. They weren't the darts I was going to use for this tournament.
