Nuclear power to return to Anglesey

MINISTERS have chosen the Welsh island of Anglesey as the location for the UK's first mini-nuclear power stations.

The Wylfa site beat Oldbury, in Gloucestershire, as the Government's preferred location for three pioneering small modular reactors (SMRs) to be built by Rolls-Royce.

It is right next to Britain's oldest nuclear power station, which shut in 2015.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “Britain was once a world leader in nuclear power but years of neglect and inertia has meant places like Anglesey have been let down and left behind.
