My 500-mile mission to beat the cancer that killed my wife

A WIDOWER and three close friends are braving the 500-mile Camino de Santiago trek to help fight the rare disease that claimed his wife's life.

Mike Rooney, 63, was left shattered when "best friend" and mum-of-three Janet, 60, died in April from bile duct cancer, a hard-to-treat hepatopancreatic biliary type.

Now the team are halfway through the trek across southern France and Spain to raise £100,000 for Manchester's Christie establish Charity and Janet The Rooney Fellowship to boost research.
