McSweeney failed to reveal No10 job in call to police about phone

POLICE chiefs sensationally released a transcript of the entire call between Morgan McSweeney and officers as Scotland Yard defended its handling of an alleged phone theft.

The PM’s ex-chief of staff told police his phone was snatched by a man on a bike in London on October 20 — a month after Peter Mandelson’s sacking as US ambassador over his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

But Mr McSweeney did not detail his role in government to officers, nor did he mention any potentially sensitive material the phone could contain.

He only told a call handler it was a “government phone” before the Labour aide said he tried to chase the thief. The staffer also said he had called his office “to get the phone tracked”.

The Met closed the case after logging a wrong address.

It said officers tried to call Mr McSweeney twice on a personal phone but he did not answer.
