Man, 70, killed and three hurt in helicopter crash

A 70-YEAR-old man died in a helicopter crash in a field in South Yorkshire in a tragedy which also left a 10-year-old boy injured.

A witness said the pilot did well to avoid houses, train tracks, industrial units and electrical pylons.

Emergency services raced to the site in Bentley, near Doncaster, at 10.15am yesterday and found the crumpled chopper lying on its side near a livestock fence and overhead lines.

South Yorkshire Police said the pensioner had died at the scene "despite the best efforts of medical staff". The force added: "His family is aware and are being supported by our officers."

The male pilot, 41, and two other passengers - a 58-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy - suffered minor injuries.
