THE King has said he is “ready to support” a police investigation amid his “profound concern” at allegations over brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct.

- BY EMILY FERGUSON Royal Editor

The extraordinary statement came as police announced they were considering whether the King’s brother should face a criminal probe on suggestions he shared confidential reports with late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The crisis, which has engulfed both the monarchy and Westminster, has shown no sign of abating since the US authorities’ recent release of millions of documents associated with Epstein.

The King was heckled at a royal event yesterday as calls increased for the Royal Family to compel Andrew to cooperate with investigators. Thames Valley Police launched an inquiry after emails emerged suggesting Andrew sent Epstein official reports from trips to South East Asia in 2010 and 2011 he took as UK trade envoy.

Buckingham Palace said: “The King has made clear, in words and through unprecedented actions, his profound concern at allegations which continue to come to light in respect of Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s conduct.

“While the specific claims in question are for Mr Mountbatten-Windsor to address, if we are approached by Thames Valley Police we stand ready to support them as you would expect.”

The King also repeated his concerns, and those of Queen Camilla, for the victims of Epstein.
