Kate's agonising 12-hour flight to bring Derek home before his death

DESPERATE Kate Garraway jetted back to the UK with husband Derek Draper after he suffered a cardiac arrest following specialist treatment in Mexico, it has been revealed.

TV host Kate, 56, and their children Darcey, 17, and Billy, 14, are heartbroken following the former political adviser's death last week - four years after he contracted Covid.

The couple flew to Mexico for treatment on Derek's long-term health issues in November and it reportedly went "incredibly well".

Covid left Derek, 56, with problems including multiple organ failure and muscle damage, leaving him vulnerable to a cardiovascular event.

He suffered the cardiac arrest ahead of their return home for Christmas.

Once stabilised Derek was put in an air ambulance for the 12-hour return flight with Kate by his side.

A source despite the doctors in Mexico getting his heart beating again, Covid damage said: "Unfortunately, meant further complications ultimately affected his chance of recovery.
