It's not too late to treat your loved one to a night or longer away to somewhere rather grand. Here's the best picks from the Good Hotel Guide.
Yes, it might be Valentine's Day today, but that does not mean it is too late to sweep a special someone off their feet with a grand gesture. And what better way to do it than with a romantic break?
The people behind this year's Good Hotel Guide have exclusively shared five of the most romantic hotels with us. From a 14th-century abbot's residence in parkland to a Gothic retreat on the Pembrokeshire coast, a historic mansion beside York Minster, a riverside priory and a Victorian fantasy castle, here are their picks of the most swoonworthy places going.
Standing in peaceful parkland just off the high street in the photogenic tourist hub of Broadway, this 14th-century manor house was once the summer residence of the Abbot of Pershore and is now a family-run B&B.
Draped with wisteria in spring, the honeyed-stone building is steeped in history and furnished with fine antiques. That it did not fall into ruin is thanks to American artist Frank Millet and his wife Lily, who lived here in the late 1800s and created a shrine to their love.
Among the luminaries they entertained were Claude Monet, John Singer Sargent, Edward Elgar, Mark Twain and Henry James.
Bedrooms feature carved fourposter beds, and a stone staircase leads to the Abbot's Chamber with a lofty vaulted ceiling, leaded windows, an oak-panelled seating area, real-flame bio fire and a freestanding rolltop bath.
