House prices up for second month in row

HOUSE prices jumped again last month - by nearly £1,400.

The 0.5% increase in November, with the average home now worth £283,615, was the second monthly rise after 1.2% in October.

But the typical property remains 1% lower than a year ago.

Kim Kinnaird, Halifax Mortgages director, said: "Over the last year, despite the wider economic headwinds, property prices have held up better than expected - falling by a relatively modest 1% on an annual basis and still some £40,000 above pre-pandemic levels.
