THOUSANDS of families started to head home to southern Lebanon yesterday on the first day of the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire. Civilians flooded back into the former war zone.
US President Joe Biden hailed the ceasefire agreement a success and said it had been designed to be permanent. He added that he would now push for a similar halt to the violence in Gaza. But Israel leader Benjamin Netanyahu warned his country would respond forcefully to any violations as there was still some sporadic gunfire in the south of Lebanon.
