Gunman gets 25 years for executing dad and son in custody battle

A PENSIONER who shot dead his daughter's ex and the man's father over custody of his grandson has been sentenced to at least 25 years in jail.

Stephen Alderton had texted that he would "override any court decision" and there was "always a plan B", Cambridge Crown Court heard.

Peter Gair, prosecuting, had told the court that the former chartered quantity surveyor blasted the two men with his Beretta shotgun on March 29, two days after a family court hearing.

Alderton, 67, of no fixed address, admitted murdering Joshua Dunmore, 32, and his father Gary, 57.

Judge Mark Bishop described the murders as an "execution" and told him: "You took the decision to take the law into your own hands."
