Foggy geog on the Tyne

GREAT North Run organisers have apologised after medals given to thousands of finishers featured the wrong city.

More than 60,000 runners took part in the half marathon on Sunday, with each of them handed a medal incorporating an image of what was supposed to be an aerial view of Newcastle and the River Tyne.

But the map forming the background to the finishers’ medals was actually of the River Wear snaking through Newcastle’s rival city of Sunderland.

It led organisers to say: “Wear sorry!”
