Father who killed family jailed for at least 40 years

Saju Chelavalel, 52, will die behind bars after being given at least 40 years for strangling NHS nurse Anju Asok and killing their two children.

The couple were recording their kids singing when Chelavalel flew into a murderous rage while drunk last December.

The tape was left on and in one chilling moment a child is heard whispering "Mummy".

Northampton Crown Court was told Chelavalel had more than four hours "to reflect on whether to kill his children". He then used a dressing gown cord to murder six-year-old son Jeeva Saju and daughter Janvi Saju, four.
