Downing Street fails to rule out compensation for terrorists

He said he will continue to replace the existing legislation, which stopped such payouts to ex-Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams and other former internees.

But asked if the PM could guarantee compensation payouts would be prevented, his official spokesman said: "Clearly the Government's intention is to prevent compensation from being paid. We are going to look at every option but I can't get ahead of that process."

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said in Prime Minister's Questions that the Labour Government "may write a cheque to compensate Gerry Adams". She added: "This is shameful."
