Dithering lords told to hurry to save dying bill

Slow progress on 1,000 amendments

PEERS have been urged to speed up debating assisted dying, amid fears the legislation may run out of time.

Lord Falconer, sponsoring the bill in the Lords, said scrutiny will be incomplete “at the rate we're going”.

His warning came before the House reconvened yesterday to continue its line-by-line scrutiny of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.

A call for more debating time was backed by the Lords without a vote, and they will now decide how much extra time to schedule.

Those opposed to legalised assisted dying have been accused of obstructing the bill to sabotage its progress.
