1,100 beach front homes plan

Closed forever...the gates of Coney Beach Pleasure Park shut on Saturday

THOUSANDS in a town dubbed the jewel of the Welsh Riviera are fighting plans they say would turn it into a “concrete jungle”.

Up to 1,100 homes, including apartment blocks of up to six storeys, are slated for Porthcawl beach front.

Some would go on the site of the much-loved Coney Beach Pleasure Park, which closed for the final time on Saturday after 107 years.

Two other south Wales seafront spots - Salt Lake and Sandy Bay - could also become housing estates
