Suffolk Strangler's former wife calls for police probe

- BY LUCY THORNTON, SASKIA ROWLANDS and DAN WARBURTON

SUFFOLK Strangler Steve Wright’s ex-wife says he should be questioned about the disappearance of former QE2 crewmate Suzy Lamplugh.

Diane Cole, 71, fears Wright was a modern-day Jack the Ripper and could have targeted Suzy, who he used to flirt with aboard the liner.

The estate agent 25, went missing after leaving her office in Fulham, West London, to meet a client known as “Mr Kipper” on July 28, 1986.

Diane said: “He needs to tell the families and give them closure if he’s responsible. Maybe he realises he’s not getting out and might start confessing more.

“He should tell the truth for the sake of Suzy’s family. And for anybody else he’s done in. It’s cruel. I definitely do think the police really need to look at him again. I know how bad he could be.”

Serial killer Wright surprisingly admitted the 1999 murder of student Victoria Hall, 17, when he appeared for trial at the Old Bailey on Monday.

Diane, who also worked on the liner, says she has since been haunted by one particular memory from the weeks after she and Suzy disembarked.

She remembered: “[Wright] was supposed to be on the ship but he arrived loaded down with Christian Dior makeup at our bungalow.
