All style but little Substance as Demi goes empty-handed

IT was a night of heartbreak as some of the biggest names in Hollywood and top British stars saw their dreams shattered at the Baftas.

Favourites including Demi Moore, Ralph Fiennes and Hugh Grant missed out as a string of young actors and outsiders grabbed the gongs.

Demi had been hot favourite to win her first Bafta for Best Actress for her role in body horror film The Substance.

But she missed out to 25-year-old Mikey Madison for Anora - about a sex worker who falls for a Russian oligarch - pushing Cynthia Erivo of Wicked out of the race.

Mikey, who has previously had a handful of supporting roles thanked her mother, saying "she's driven me to so many auditions".

British screen legends Ralph and Hugh were beaten to Best Actor by Hollywood veteran Adrien Brody for his role in The Brutalist.

But in a night when many of our top stars were eclipsed, homegrown two films beat international rivals to win a clutch of awards.
