New road safety plan praised

WEST Midlands leaders have praised a ‘long overdue’ national strategy aimed at preventing fatalities and serious injuries on roads.
The National Road Safety Strat ogy, unveiled by the Department for Transport on Wednesday (January 7), aims to decrease the number of people killed or seriously injured on UK roads by 65 per cent by 2035.
The strategy includes plans such as introducing lower alcohol limits and suspending licences for those accused of drink and drug offences.
Additional measures include penalty points for not wearing seat belts, mandatory eye tests for older drivers and a crackdown on ‘ghost plates!
