COVENTRY

City have produced their fair share of talented players over the years. Some, like Gary McSheffrey, Callum Wilson and James Maddison played for their beloved hometown club before going on to be sold for profit and enjoying successful careers elsewhere.

The fans love a local lad, one of their own who has grown up in the area and realised their dream of playing for the Sky Blues. Josh Eccles is the current senior player flying the flag for the city, the Academy graduate having played 174 times for the club so far.

And now George Shepherd is the latest homegrown talent to attempt to bridge the gap to the first team.

The midfielder was picked out to train with Frank Lampard's first team earlier this season, making the bench on two occasions at the tender age of 16.

Now, having just turned 17, Shepherd has committed himself to the CBS Arena by signing his first pro contract and, again, was named in the matchday squad at Southampton at the weekend.

So what do we know about the teenage talent who appears to have a bright future ahead of him?
