UNION Flags and bunting fluttered in towns and villages across Cornish Guardian country as communities came together to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Echoing events across the country, a host of commemorations were staged during the day including parades, marches, two-minute silences and wreath-laying.
In Bodmin, events began with the VE80 Proclamation which was read on the steps of Shire Hall. A ceremony and two-minute silence was then held at the memorial outside Bodmin Keep: Cornwall's Army Museum. Later attention turned to the lighting of the brazier at Beacon Nature Reserve.
"Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Beacon Nature Reserve last night to commemorate VE80 Day," Bodmin Town Council said on social media. "It was a wonderful evening as we lit the brazier and illuminated the Beacon in remembrance and celebration. We hope you enjoyed the delicious fish and chips from Golden Fry in Bodmin, the coffee and cake from Millie's, and the fantastic music from the amazing Bodmin Town Band.
