Revised plans put extra inches on to care home

‘The Laurels residential care home, runs by Country Court Care Ltd, lies on Westfield Lane near the western edge of Draycott, a few miles southeast of Cheddar.

‘The current care home, which was built in the 1980s and has been extended on several occasions, has “undersized” communal spaces, “squeezed” staff and support facilities and room sizes which are “well below current standards”.

Somerset Council granted the company permission in May 2024 to demolish the existing care homes and placed it with a larger facility, with the number of bedrooms rising from 21 to 49.

The council’s planning committee east (which handles major applications within the former Mendip area) has now agreed to new plans, which will see a further three inches added to the height of the building.
