As he languishes for 10 years in the local gulag for taking pro-Russia bribes, no doubt yearning for a bowl of beetroot soup and a Siberian dumpling, he will have plenty of time to read about those who in the past have been fascinated by the communism of the old Soviet Union.

However, it was not for money that they explored the Soviet dream but a glimpse of a vision of society liberated from the ills of capitalist Britain, its class system and the inequalities of wealth and opportunity.
