HEAVY rain across the province, including Vhembe, has turned usually calm rivers and streams into dangerous waterways, resulting in several drownings this season.
On 28 January, the 16-year-old Akonisaho Gift Maiwashe of Nthabalala village tragically lost his life while swimming with friends.
According to reports, Maiwashe was part of a group of eight children who went swimming in the river.
