Meghalaya HC-appointed 'special official" to hold meeting on hawker's relocation

The Meghalaya High Court-appointed “Special Officer” will convene a meeting with all stakeholders on July 16 to relocate street vendors and hawkers from Shillong’s Police Bazar area, now a declared a no vending zone, to designated vending zones, an official said today.

A division bench of the High Court comprising of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh on July 3 appointed senior lawyer Subhasis Chakrawarty as “Special Officer” to supervise the rehabilitation of hawkers as per the court orders implemented without any breach of peace or commission of any offence.
P.K. Boro, the Chief Executive Officer of Shillong Municipal Board, today said that the joint meeting to be attended by the general secretary of the hawker’s association, police and municipal officials is in pursuant to the order passed by the Meghalaya High Court on July 3.
