Global warming can reduce the variety of crops in the world.
-
A new study warns that if the global temperature exceeds 1.5°C, huge areas may lose crop diversity, which may increase risk for worldwide food security. Researchers estimate that about a third of global food production may be at risk due to high temperatures. In research published in Nature Food, scientists at the University of Alto in Finland explained how changes in temperature, rainfall patterns and overall dryness will impact the growth of 30 major food crops worldwide. The results of research show that the lower latitude zones, the larger parts of the special tax tropical countries are the most damaging ones. As the temperature rises, too much land will be unsuitable for agriculture in these areas.
