WHEN the South African government declared the national state of disaster to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic, tenderpreneurs with the help of their cronies in government and the ANC started lining their pockets.

Forget about whether they could do the actual job required or not, they were ready to feast even at a time when the world navigated a deadly virus that most of us knew very little about. Public funds found their way into the bank accounts of car washes, salons and businesses registered under dead people.
Millions of rand meant to purchase vital PPE for health workers ended up in the hands of companies established on the eve of the pandemic being declared a national state of disaster.
