BITTERSWEET REFLECTION: YOUTH DAY

AS SOUTH Africa commemorated Youth Day yesterday, it was a bittersweet occasion for many of the nation’s youth, who continue to grapple with a myriad of challenges.
-
Issues such as poverty, unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse overshadowed what should have been a day of celebration and empowerment.
Recently, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the initiation of a National Dialogue - a “people-led, society-wide process to reflect on the state of our country in order for us to reimagine our future.”
This dialogue presents an important opportunity for youth to express their concerns and aspirations regarding the critical issues plaguing their lives.
