Nelson Mandela Day Marathon aiming to capitilise on Comrades spirit

WITH the country still gripped in the spirit of the recently completed Comrades Marathon and many no doubt inspired by Tete Dijana and Gerda Steyn to take up running, the Nelson Mandela Foundation provides an opportunity to get going.
The Foundation hosts key events as part of the Mandela International Day coming up on July 18, and one of those is the Annual Mandela Day Walk & Run. Now going into its fourth year, the event is scheduled for the day after (July 19) at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Such has been the growth of the event over the years that the organisers are expecting to have 10 000 participants for all of the 5km walk, the 10km run and the half marathon (21.1km) and believe it will be the most thrilling yet.
