Markram, Ngidi named in Team of Tournament
March 10, 2026
|Cape Argus
PROTEAS captain Aiden Markram has been named captain of the official ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Team of the Tournament.
Markram is one of two Proteas included in the side, along with seamer Lungi Ngidi. The Proteas skipper scored 286 runs - including three half-centuries - and guided his team to seven straight victories before falling short in the semifinals against New Zealand.
Despite opening the batting throughout the tournament, the ICC judging panel consisting of Ian Bishop, Natalie Germanos, Eoin Morgan (Broadcasters); Gaurav Saxena (ICC Representative); Rex Clementine (Sports Journalist) opted to select Markram at No 4 in the middle-order.
Ngidi took 12 wickets at an average of 15.58. He took four wickets against Canada and three against both Afghanistan and the West Indies but also impressed with a miserly spell against India that yielded just 15 runs from four overs.
South African-born seamer ShadJey van Schalkwyk, who led the bowling charts until the final innings of the tournament, excelled for the USA with 13 wickets at a rate of just 6.84 and economy of 6.80 was selected as the 12th player.
