George Municipality tightens water-saving measures

GEORGE Municipality says it is tightening water-saving measures at its sports facilities as drought conditions worsen and dam levels continue to decline across the municipal area.
The municipality said on Tuesday that its Sport Division within the Community Services Directorate had implemented a range of interventions in line with Level 2D Water Demand Management Measures.
Sport manager Granville Campher said flow regulators had been installed in ablution facilities at sports venues, while the use of potable water for irrigation had been halted.
“The municipality is implementing every possible measure to reduce water consumption,” Campher said. “At Outeniqua Park, we are utilising borehole water to assist with watering and fertilising selected cricket pitches. This is critical to ensure the completion of formal league fixtures.”
