From selling sweets to a hero's matric farewell

MATRIC learner Rudolph Lekay, who went viral on social media earlier this year after displaying remarkable entrepreneurship, courage, and determination by selling sweets at the Town Centre in Mitchells Plain, received a hero farewell, including a visit by the station commander. His efforts were aimed at paying for his farewell and supporting his family during challenging times.
Lekay, 19, from Morgenster, attends Florida High in Ravensmead. He left his home before 5am each day to sell sweets and pretzels for R2 and R3 and managed to raise an impressive R10000 in just six months. His story of resilience and hard work resonated with many, leading to a backbuddy account being started for Ronaldo Gouws, which raised R70000 that was handed over to the family in August.
