Fears over school's access to sports field

A DEVELOPMENT application notice placed at the MN Moerat sports field has raised concerns among the South Peninsula (SP) High School community, with fears about the future of a facility the school has used for nearly three decades.

SP High has made use of the MN Moerat sports field since 1998. However, according to the provincial Department of Infrastructure (DOI), a Land Use Management System application is currently open for public comment. The application relates to the proposed consolidation of MN Moerat at Erven 1742, and an adjacent field on the corner of Long Street and Boundary Road at Erven 1783 for educational purposes.

Concerns escalated after a petition circulated on social media earlier this month that suggested that the provincial government might sell the land.

The provincial DOI has since dismissed these claims, stating that any suggestion of a sale is incorrect.
