DUNNE CELEBRATED IN STYLE
-
PLAYER of the match Amy Dunne capped off her birthday in fine style with the winner two minutes from time as Cambridge South Hockey Club’s women’s firsts gave their promotion hopes a significant boost with a hard-fought win in Suffolk.
The hosts came into the fixture boasting a perfect home record, with eight wins out of eight, including inflicting the only defeat so far this season suffered by league leaders City of Peterborough.
Initially Sudbury looked on course to keep their scorecard intact, taking the lead midway through the first half. However South responded with a beautifully timed and taken goal, Izzy Smith deflecting a penalty corner into the top corner a handful of second prior to the halftime whistle.
Buoyed by this South came out strong after the break, moving 3-1 up after Amelie Barclay juggled the ball through to finish, and Kim Pearson thudded home a penalty corner. Sudbury were not done though, scoring twice in four minutes to recover the deficit and set up a grandstand finish.
The final say was South's, Dunne netting late on.
